Rosie Ramsden is an artist and food stylist in North Yorkshire.

PAINTING

Rosie paints in oil and watercolour from her studio in North Yorkshire. Set within a rural landscape, the studio's surroundings find their way into her work through layered paint and shifting colour. Hay, sage, rust, heather, acid yellow, peach and late-evening blue appear throughout her paintings, reflecting the ever-changing landscape beyond her window.

Rosie's work seeks to capture the moment just before movement and a changing sense of place: a fleeting shadow across dense trees, a winter moon appearing through cloud, sunlight on a ploughed field or abstract figures embracing. She is drawn to the familiarity of imagined pathways, melting skies and luminous expanses. Through rich palettes and loose brushwork, her work explores the relationship between landscape, memory and belonging.

Despite this close connection to nature, Rosie works primarily from sketches and memory. Her paintings are often sparked by reading and writing poetry; she mixes colour according to the feeling of words and approaches the canvas without knowing exactly what will emerge.

Rosie has been a food stylist and recipe writer for 15 years. She has styled over 15 cookbooks, most recently Anna Jones’s Easy Wins, Flora Shedden’s Winter in the Highlands, and previously Supper and Aran, and Karen Newby’s The Natural Menopause Method.

Earlier titles include Emily Scott’s Sea & Shore, Sally Clarke’s First Put on Your Apron and her 40 year celebration book, Kylee Newton’s The Modern Preserver’s Kitchen, Thomsina Miers’ Home Cook, James Rich’s Orchard, part of Julius Roberts’ The Farm Table, and The Really Quite Good British Cookbook by William Sitwell.
